Megalosaurus (meaning "Great Lizard) is a genus of large meat-eating theropod dinosaurs of the Middle Jurassic period (Bathonian stage, 166 million years ago) of Southern England.

Megalosaurus was one of the first dinosaurs ever to be named. The dinosaur was first thought to be a giant lizard-like creature similar to that to Iguanodon, nowadays the dinosaur's image had been updated to a bipedal and balanced carnivorous creature.
